This bold and aromatic spice blend takes the classic "everything" seasoning to the next level with the earthy, tangy addition of za’atar and a fragrant mix of toasted seeds, crispy onion, and garlic. Perfect for sprinkling over bread, roasted vegetables, eggs, or creamy dips like hummus and labneh, this savory, crunchy, and slightly spicy blend will quickly become a pantry staple.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons fried onion
2 tablespoons minced fried garlic
2 tablespoons raw sesame seeds
1 tablespoon za’atar (optional)
2 teaspoons nigella seeds
1 teaspoon poppy seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon caraway seeds
1 teaspoon Maldon salt (or flaky sea salt)
½ teaspoon silk chili (or other chili flakes of choice)
Instructions
Toast the Seeds
In a dry pan over medium-low heat, lightly toast the sesame, nigella, poppy, cumin, and caraway seeds until fragrant, about 1–2 minutes. Stir frequently to prevent burning.Cool and Mix
Remove from heat and let cool slightly. In a bowl, combine the toasted seeds with the fried onion, fried garlic, salt, za’atar, and chili flakes.Store and Use
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
Serving Suggestions
Sprinkle over bagels, flatbreads, or avocado toast for extra crunch and flavor.
Toss with roasted vegetables, chickpeas, or potatoes before serving.
Use as a seasoning for popcorn, grilled meats, or seafood.
